Northflank tells users to rotate secrets after security incident
Northflank said Friday that environment variables should be treated as decrypted after a security incident, and that some users reported AI keys had been used, according to its status page.
Cloud platform Northflank said Friday it was responding to a security incident and told customers to treat environment variables as decrypted and rotate keys immediately, according to its public status page1.
The company marked the incident a major outage affecting networking, certificates, services, addons, jobs, builds, and logs and metrics. It listed the Northflank app, API, marketing site and documentation as operational1.
A timeline in the first status update said a Wiz threat alert arrived at 11:43 UTC, engineers reviewed it a minute later, an initial network-policy patch went out at 12:02 UTC, further patching followed at 12:50 UTC and 13:05 UTC, and Wiz CIRT support was requested at 13:00 UTC1.
At 9:40 a.m. GMT-4 Northflank told users to rotate environment variables immediately. At 9:58 a.m. it said to assume all environment variables had been decrypted and to disable or rotate all keys1.
A later update at 11:12 a.m. GMT-4 said secret rotation on Postgres and MongoDB had been enabled for all users and recommended disabling public expose on addons if that setting was on. It again said all users should assume environment variables were decrypted and begin rotation, covering secrets on workloads, secret groups and global secrets1.
The same update said multiple users were confirming that their AI keys had been used1.
The status page did not describe the intrusion method, how many accounts were affected, or whether the incident had been contained1.
