GitHub opens public preview of new pull request Overview page

GitHub said it is rolling out an opt-in Overview page that puts merge readiness and next actions at the top of pull requests.

  3. Our desk filed its story

GitHub on Nov. 5, 2026, said a new pull request Overview page is in public preview, with an opt-in rollout continuing through that weekend1.

The company said reviewers often scroll past comments and timeline events to reach the merge box, then still have to figure out the next step1. The Overview page puts merge status and available actions at the top in a compact readiness summary1.

GitHub said it redesigned the merge box rather than only moving it higher, showing the same information in less than half the space1. The compact view groups checks, comments and approvals, and highlights actions such as updating a branch or merging when requirements are met1.

From the summary, users can jump to failing checks, remaining reviewers or related comments, GitHub said1.

The preview also adds conversation filters for unresolved threads or comments the user wrote, newest-to-oldest comment sorting, and an upper-right activity summary for review comments, review requests and other updates1. Users can mark a draft ready for review or close a pull request from the header, depending on permissions1.

To try it, GitHub said users should select "Try the Overview page" in the header and can return to the classic overview from the same menu during the preview1.

GitHub described the preview as a starting point, not a finished pull request experience, and asked users to report issues in a community discussion on GitHub1.
