Crusoe said Friday that Google has acquired its data-center site in southeast Wyoming, ending Crusoe's pre-development role on site selection, government approvals and a hybrid power plan worked up with Tallgrass Energy1,2.

TechCrunch reported Google is taking over an unfinished project after concerns about cost and construction timing under Crusoe; the companies did not disclose the sale price2.

Google has said it will invest $17 billion in Wyoming data-center capacity, with an initial 702-megawatt fuel-cell development using carbon capture, partners including Tallgrass, Black Hills Energy, American Electric Power and Related Digital, and air cooling to limit water use5,8,2.

Crusoe CEO Chase Lochmiller said the Wyoming work set the project up for construction and that Crusoe still has more than 6 gigawatts contracted and over 40 gigawatts in its pipeline1.

Crusoe remains the developer of a Google campus under construction in Armstrong County, Texas, outside Amarillo1,2.

WyoFile noted local skepticism, including a University of Wyoming poll that found 30% support for more large AI data centers5.

Bloomberg reported in June that Crusoe was pushed aside on the Wyoming AI project after Google's concerns; Crusoe later raised $3.9 billion in September2.

A timeframe for first buildings and how the $17 billion would be spent year by year were not set out in Crusoe's note or in Thursday's local coverage1,5.

Crusoe said the Wyoming campus was begun with Tallgrass through parallel power and data-center work, combining fuel cells, grid power and natural-gas turbines with a longer-term carbon-capture path via Tallgrass's regional CO2 hub1,5.
