Meta, TikTok and X on Friday lost a legal challenge against British regulator Ofcom over how much information it is requiring them to provide under the United Kingdom’s online safety rules, according to a Reuters report carried by CNA1.
CNA, citing Reuters, said the case is among the first under the 2023 Online Safety Act, which sets tougher standards for platforms including TikTok, X and Meta’s Facebook and Instagram, with the stated aim of protecting children from harmful and illegal content1.
The companies argued that the notices create unprecedented regulatory burdens, but London’s High Court rejected the case, the Reuters copy said1.
None of the companies, nor Ofcom, immediately responded to requests for comment, according to that report1.
