Wire reporting: (AP, via Local 10)

Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 46, of Colorado Springs, pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court to 12 hate-crime charges for using Molotov cocktails against a Boulder gathering, the Justice Department said2.

He admitted that on June 1, 2025, he lit and threw two Molotov cocktails into a gathering of the Boulder chapter of Run for Their Lives, which organized walks over hostages taken in the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks in Israel, and that he targeted the group because of actual or perceived Israeli national origin and Jewish religion2. The attack killed one person and caused severe injuries to others2.

CBS News identified the person killed as Karen Diamond and said Soliman had already pleaded guilty to more than 100 state charges, including first-degree murder, receiving life without parole plus 2,128 years1. He had previously pleaded not guilty to the federal counts in June 2025; a judge found him competent to change the plea1.

Nine of the federal counts carry a maximum of life in prison; three others carry up to 50 years consecutive, plus fines, the department said2. Sentencing is set for Jan. 7, 20271,2. U.S. Attorney Peter McNeilly said the federal case addresses the bias motive1,2.

The FBI Denver office and Boulder police investigated2. CBS News said Gov. Jared Polis has asked for life plus 50 years1.
