Jackson files to close Hideaway lounge after Halloween shooting

WAPT reported Mayor John Horhn said Jackson filed legal papers to shut the Hideaway Lounge after a Nov. 1 shooting that killed two people and injured six.

JACKSON, Miss. — The city has filed legal documents to shut down the Hideaway Lounge until further notice after a Halloween-weekend shooting that killed two people and injured six, Mayor John Horhn told WAPT1.

Horhn said the city is working with the nightclub's owner and the owner of the property, and that both have agreed to keep the business closed while the city decides next steps1.

Horhn said, "They have voluntarily agreed to keep it closed so we can determine this future," according to WAPT1.

WAPT said gunfire erupted inside the Hideaway during a Halloween party early Sunday, Nov. 11.

Police said two masked men entered the nightclub and at least one opened fire into a crowd, killing 20-year-old Lovdai Poindexter and 18-year-old Jada Henderson, a Jackson State University student, and injuring six others, WAPT reported1.

Police Chief RaShall Brackney has said investigators are examining event promoters, security companies, nightclub management and property ownership to determine whether anyone else could be held responsible, according to WAPT1.

WAPT said the shooting was the second deadly incident connected to the Hideaway this year1.

Horhn has not ruled out a permanent closure and linked the case to the city's Model Cities Initiative, which he said is meant to add police staffing, overtime and equipment, WAPT reported1.

The shooting remained under investigation, and police asked anyone with information to contact the Jackson Police Department, WAPT said1.
