OpenAI on Monday introduced GPT-6.1 Terra, a model it said combines visual reasoning and computer use at lower cost than GPT-5.6 Terra, with availability in ChatGPT Work, Codex and the API1.

The company said standard API prices are 50% lower than GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol, listing $1 per million input tokens, $0.05 per million cached input tokens, and $5 per million output tokens1.

Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu users can use the model in ChatGPT Work and Codex, OpenAI said, and developers can call it as gpt-6.1-terra1.

On Agents' Last Exam, OpenAI said GPT-6.1 Terra at medium reasoning effort scores 15 percentage points higher than GPT-5.6 Terra at about one-third the cost, and completes tasks more than three times faster than GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol1.

The company also reported gains versus GPT-5.6 Terra on MMMU-Pro visual reasoning, OSWorld 2.1 desktop-agent tasks, and Terminal-Bench 4.0, where it said GPT-6.1 Terra solved 50.3% of tasks at maximum effort, more than double GPT-5.6 Terra's 21.5%1.

On an internal set of error-inducing prompts, OpenAI said the error rate at low reasoning effort fell from 53.6% with GPT-5.6 Terra to 16.7% with GPT-6.1 Terra1.

OpenAI said the model meets the Critical cybersecurity threshold under its Preparedness Framework, keeps GPT-6 Astra protections, and published further detail in a system card1.
