The Verge reported Friday that some iPhone Duo units already show broken inner screens as Apple's first folding iPhone went on sale, based on posts on Reddit1.
The site said the damage appears in a similar place on the affected units: along the inner screen at the hinge, with a bright line or lines across the right side of the display1.
The Verge cited one user in Australia who said the phone cracked along the hinge after about six hours and fewer than 20 opens, with no marks on the inner screen surface or the external hinge suggesting something had been caught1. That user said an Apple Store replaced the phone with a new unit on the spot, according to The Verge1.
The Verge said other Reddit posts showed additional damaged units and that Apple did not immediately reply to a request for comment1. How common the problem is, and whether it is a manufacturing defect, remains unknown from the report1.
