Turo will begin advertising which Teslas listed on its peer-to-peer rental marketplace have Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software enabled, and eligible hosts who rent out their cars will receive a one-month free trial of the feature, TechCrunch reported Monday1.

Turo said it is working with Tesla to tap the automaker's programming interface so it can verify which vehicles have FSD turned on, according to the report1. The software can handle many driving tasks but still requires a human to supervise and be ready to take over1.

The announcement followed Tesla figures last week that about 1.7 million customers have paid for FSD worldwide, out of more than 10 million cars built and sold, TechCrunch said1. Tesla said more than 75% of customers who took delivery in North America in the third quarter paid for an FSD subscription, a roughly 20% increase from the second quarter, the report said, even as U.S. sales have declined1.

Chief executive Elon Musk wrote last week, "People are buying FSD with a car attached, not the other way around," TechCrunch reported1. Tesla finance chief Vaibhav Taneja said on the earnings call that customers were asking to try an FSD drive rather than naming a specific model, according to the account1.

Turo said Tesla's Model 3 and Model Y were the third- and fourth-most popular vehicles on its platform this year1. Turo chief executive Andre Haddad said most travelers have had limited chance to try driver-assistance technology and that Turo research found 55% of Americans interested in driverless technology for travel, rising to 71% among Gen Z, according to TechCrunch1.

Renters of an FSD-enabled Tesla through Turo will see cautionary language requiring them to monitor the software and be ready to intervene, and they will have the option to view a Tesla tutorial, the report said1. Listings may let owners promote cars as "Self-Driving," according to screenshots Turo provided to TechCrunch1.
