A bystander jumped onto a moving school bus in Saint Paul, Minnesota, on Monday afternoon and brought it to a stop after the driver had a medical emergency1,2.

Saint Paul Public Schools said 19 students were aboard the Battle Creek Middle School bus and none was injured1,2. KSL, carrying a WCCO report, said the district later stated Wednesday evening that the driver had been released from the hospital and was resting at home2.

KSL placed the scene outside Ya Bricks Snacks and Tobacco at North Mendota Street and Fremont Avenue East in the Dayton's Bluff neighborhood, and said store video showed Ebro Ahmed, 27, running toward the bus after a drop-off with the doors still open2. CBS News said the bus was rolling at about 10 mph with lights flashing1.

Ahmed told CBS News he had never driven a bus and stopped it by shifting into neutral and setting the parking brake after first putting it in reverse1. KSL quoted him saying, "It caught me by surprise because I was kind of confused about the door open"2.

A district spokesperson told WCCO another bus picked up the students so they could continue home, and that some may have been upset2. The district did not publicly describe the nature of the driver's medical emergency1,2.
