Kioxia Q2 operating profit near 2 trillion yen; Q3 outlook trails estimates

Kioxia Holdings said Friday that July-September operating profit was 1.995 trillion yen and that it expects about 1.995 trillion yen in the current quarter, below analyst estimates cited by market reports.

Kioxia Holdings Corp. on Friday reported July-September operating profit of 1,994.7 billion yen (about $12.4 billion at the 161-yen average dollar rate in the filing) as NAND flash prices and shipments rose on data-center demand, and said it expects operating profit of 1,995.0 billion yen in the October-December quarter2.

The Tokyo-listed NAND maker said quarterly revenue was 2,480.0 billion yen, up 712.9 billion yen from April-June, with SSD and storage at 1,616.0 billion yen and smart devices at 788.9 billion yen2. Profit attributable to owners of the parent was 1,355.7 billion yen2,3.

Techmeme’s roundup of Bloomberg’s Takashi Mochizuki put fiscal second-quarter operating profit at about $12.7 billion, about 22 times a year earlier and in line with estimates, and said the company’s next-quarter operating-profit forecast of about $12.7 billion sat below about $14.9 billion in estimates1. Newsquawk similarly reported Q3 operating-profit guidance of 2.00 trillion yen versus 2.35 trillion yen expected, with net profit of 1.356 trillion yen essentially matching a 1.36 trillion yen estimate3.

Kioxia’s own outlook does not cite Street numbers. It said data-center demand should stay strong but that a weaker dollar versus the yen would leave third-quarter revenue and profit broadly in line with the second quarter, with revenue seen at 2,500.0 billion yen2. The company used an assumed 157-yen dollar rate for the outlook, versus 161 yen in the just-reported quarter2.

For the six months through September, Kioxia reported revenue of 4,247.2 billion yen, up from 791.1 billion yen a year earlier, and operating profit of 3,264.7 billion yen, up from 130.8 billion yen2. Management attributed the jump mainly to higher average selling prices and bit shipments for generative-AI data-center customers, plus a weaker yen, partly offset by litigation provisions, employee profit-sharing, and stock-based pay2.

The company declared an interim dividend of 90 yen per share on a pre-split basis, with payment scheduled for Dec. 8, 20262,3. It also recorded 800.3 billion yen of treasury-share purchases in the half2. A 3-for-1 stock split took effect Oct. 1, 20262.

Kioxia does not publish a full-year plan because of short-cycle volatility in memory, the filing said2. The company warned that actual results may differ from the outlook because of demand, competition, and other industry risks2.
