Saudi-led coalition says it intercepted drone over Eastern Region

Al-Monitor carried a Reuters dispatch saying the Saudi-led coalition reported intercepting a drone over Saudi Arabia's Eastern Region on Saturday, plus a later intercept toward the south.

Al-Monitor published a Reuters-bylined dispatch from Cairo saying the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen reported early Saturday that it intercepted a drone over Saudi Arabia's Eastern Region1.

The same item said the coalition later reported intercepting a drone launched toward the Southern Region, and that it had claimed a Friday intercept over the Medina region that Yemen's Houthis denied1.

Al-Monitor's reprint described the Eastern Region as home to most of the kingdom's oil and gas reserves and to Saudi Aramco's headquarters, and said that headquarters was damaged in an attack earlier in October1. It also said cross-border fighting had intensified amid the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran1. Independent confirmation of the intercepts was not in the readable text.

A Reuters URL whose headline referred to a Houthi drone over the Medina region could not be read in this pass.
