TeraWulf says Google will backstop credit for Anthropic Kentucky campus

TeraWulf said Wednesday that Google will provide credit support for financing a Kentucky data-center campus leased to Anthropic, with initial capacity expected in the second half of 2027.

TeraWulf Inc. said Wednesday that Google LLC will provide contractual credit support for debt financing tied to about $19 billion of contracted leases with Anthropic at the company's Justified Data Campus in Hawesville, Kentucky2,3.

The bitcoin miner-turned data-center developer also said it signed a definitive engineering, procurement and construction agreement with Fluor Enterprises for three buildings at the site, expanding work that began under a limited notice to proceed in March 20262,3.

CNA, carrying Reuters, said the Google pact is the latest case of large technology companies offering multi-billion-dollar backstops to help smaller AI infrastructure developers raise capital2. Techmeme summarized the same Reuters account, including a second-half 2027 target for the campus coming online1.

TeraWulf said Alphabet's senior unsecured debt is rated AA+ by S&P Global Ratings and Aa2 by Moody's3. Chief Financial Officer Patrick Fleury said strong investment-grade credit support strengthens the project's financing profile and its ability to pursue competitive long-term debt2,3.

The company said the campus is expected to support about 401 megawatts of critical IT load, with initial capacity expected in the second half of 20272. Its own release said Fluor's phased ready-for-service dates are expected to begin in late 2027 and run through the second quarter of 2028, with guaranteed maximum pricing still being set as engineering proceeds3.

TeraWulf said it signed a 20-year lease with Anthropic in July and that the arrangement is expected to generate about $19 billion in contracted revenue2,3. It develops power-backed digital infrastructure rather than owning AI chips, and still operates bitcoin-mining kit at Lake Mariner in New York while converting parts of that campus to high-performance computing3.

Google and Anthropic did not issue separate statements in the materials reviewed. Terms of the credit support, including any fees, caps or conditions, were not disclosed in the company release or the Reuters account carried by CNA2,3.
