U.S. Central Command said Saturday that U.S. forces disabled a St. Kitts-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman after, in the command's account, the civilian crew ignored repeated warnings and tried to leave the area following a call at an Iranian port1,6,7.

CENTCOM identified the ship as the M/V Huda and said a U.S. military aircraft fired precision munitions at the stern after directing the crew to leave targeted spaces7. In a post quoted by Arab News, the command said the crew "ignored repeated warnings and attempted to violate the naval blockade against Iran multiple times"7.

Al Jazeera reported the U.S. military's account of the firing and, separately, that the United Arab Emirates said Sunday it had rescued 22 sailors from a burning ship near the Strait of Hormuz1. Outlets did not establish whether that rescue involved the Huda1.

CENTCOM, as relayed by Middle East Eye and Al-Monitor's Reuters copy, said it was also standing up a task force aimed at Iran's movement of advanced weapons and other sanctioned goods over land borders and through the Caspian Sea, and estimated its months-long naval blockade had blocked more than $25 billion in Iranian crude exports2,6.

KSL, carrying Associated Press reporting, said U.S. forces have enforced a blockade around the Strait of Hormuz for months and that the last confirmed U.S. strike on a cargo vessel was nearly a month earlier in the same gulf5. The same AP copy said Iranian state media reported explosions Saturday on Qeshm Island and at the port of Jask, that the Iranian military said two tankers hit mines and caught fire, and that the U.S. military did not immediately comment on those reports5.

Independent confirmation of the crew's condition, the ship's cargo, and any link to the UAE rescue was not in the accounts reviewed1,6,7.
