Egypt's military effort to help defend Saudi Arabia would be confined to the kingdom's territory and borders and would not extend to an attack on Yemen, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said Wednesday, Oct. 21, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency's spokesperson reported by Reuters1.

The statement said Egypt would also defend any other Arab country that asked for help, but that its military effort would not go beyond Egypt or the Arab state it was protecting1. Sisi described support for Gulf states as part of shared Arab national security, the statement said1.

The comments come after Egypt's parliament on Monday postponed until Oct. 26 a vote on authorizing the armed forces to support Saudi Arabia if asked, following recent attacks by Yemen's Houthis, according to the report1.
