Rodney Hinton Jr. was sentenced Wednesday in Clermont County, Ohio, to 18 months in prison in a case accusing him of assaulting corrections officers while he awaited trial in a deputy’s death, WLWT and FOX19 reported^1,3.

WHIO, citing WCPO, said Hinton pleaded guilty to three felony assault counts². WLWT said he was convicted of three assault counts and received credit for 320 days already served¹.

Prosecutors said that in December 2025, after a shower, Hinton punched an officer in the face and struggled with others who tried to restrain him^1,2. FOX19 said court records listed minor injuries for one officer³.

The judge noted that Hinton apologized to the officers, WHIO reported².

Last week a Hamilton County jury convicted Hinton of murder, reckless homicide and felonious assault in the May 2025 death of Deputy Larry Henderson, cleveland.com reported⁷. Jurors rejected an insanity defense and did not convict on aggravated murder⁷.

Henderson was directing traffic near the University of Cincinnati when he was struck by a car hours after Hinton watched police video of Cincinnati officers fatally shooting Hinton’s 18-year-old son, Ryan; the officer who fired was not charged, cleveland.com said⁷.

WLWT said Hamilton County sentencing is Nov. 16 and that Hinton’s lawyer plans to appeal the murder conviction¹. FOX19 gave the date as Nov. 19 and said prosecutors want 15 years to life³. How the 18-month jail term will run with that sentence was not clear¹.
