The Associated Press reported Tuesday that it obtained, through a public records request, a 911 recording from Kaylub Giamanco, the parent who fatally shot a 16-year-old gunman at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, on Oct. 151.
According to the AP account, the call lasted a little more than a minute; Giamanco told the dispatcher someone had a gun at his daughter's school and that he was armed, while the operator told him not to act and to wait for an officer1.
The same report said Giamanco told the operator the shooter was entering the building and that shots were being fired before the call ended1.
AP said the teenager, identified as Griffin J. John II, killed three children and a teacher in a special-needs classroom; another student was critically injured and a teacher was hospitalized1. AP said a teacher tried to stop the shooter before Giamanco entered the school through an open window and fired1.
