DreamHost said it reset passwords for some email and FTP/SFTP users after an incident that began Oct. 23, 2026, affecting its File Manager interface and webmail, according to the company's status page1.

The page still listed an active incident and a service disruption for File Manager, email hosting and webmail1. Web hosting, the web panel, billing and several other products were listed as operational1.

Operations staff first reported connectivity problems on File Manager at 2:20 p.m. PDT Oct. 231. At 5:20 p.m. PDT the company said File Manager was offline and some webmail users had been signed out or saw login errors1.

As a precaution, DreamHost said it was resetting passwords on some email accounts, which would stop webmail and mail apps from accepting the old password1. It directed account owners to set a new password on the Manage Email page in the panel1.

At 10:13 p.m. PDT Oct. 23 it said the issue also affected FTP/SFTP access and that it was resetting passwords for some email and FTP/SFTP users1. Customers who had not been contacted were told no action was needed then, and that password changes made before the reset finished would be overwritten1.

On Oct. 24 at 10:37 a.m. PDT the company said the password reset for affected email and FTP/SFTP users was complete1. Account owners could set new passwords in the panel at panel.dreamhost.com and should allow up to 15 minutes before signing in1.

A 6:09 p.m. PDT Oct. 24 update said instruction emails to affected account owners had begun going out in batches1. Owners did not need to wait for that mail; email or FTP users were told to ask the account owner to set a new password1.

DreamHost said it would never email asking for a password and that its notice would not ask customers to log in through a link1. Unrequested password-reset messages should be ignored, it said1. The status page did not state a cause or how many accounts were affected1.
