A localized ceasefire around the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky in Kherson Oblast entered a third day without major reported violations, as crews cleared mines ahead of aid and civilian movement, the Kyiv Independent reported3.
Ukrainian ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said Thursday the truce had held about 54 hours and that aid deliveries were due Friday, with both sides honoring the agreement, according to AP copy carried by Local 109. Russian counterpart Yana Lantratova said Russian engineers were demining roads and that no violations had been recorded9.
The White House said first lady Melania Trump helped broker the pause so food and medical supplies could reach about 2,000 people trapped in Oleshky; Pope Leo XIV also pressed for a truce, the AP account said9. Kherson Gov. Oleksandr Prokudin said no strikes on civilian or critical infrastructure were recorded in the region during the pause3.
Oleshky, prewar population about 24,000, has been occupied since early in Russia's full-scale invasion and has been cut off from aid, the Kyiv Independent reported3. The pause was announced by the White House on Oct. 23 and is expected to last into early November3.
Fighting continued elsewhere. Overnight, Russia launched 112 attack drones, 40 of them jet-powered, Ukraine's Air Force said; 97 were downed or jammed3. A jet-powered drone hit two trains in Dnipro, killing at least 14 people, AP reported9. Other strikes killed civilians in Chernihiv and Kremenchuk9.
