Egypt's foreign minister said Cairo wants to explore diplomatic paths in Yemen as the country's parliament prepares to vote next week on authorizing the armed forces to support Saudi Arabia, according to Al-Monitor and Middle East Eye, both carrying a Reuters report1,2,3.

The same dispatch said President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi had asked for an urgent parliamentary session on military involvement supporting the kingdom, and that after a closed session lawmakers postponed a vote until Oct. 261,2,3.

Al-Monitor and Middle East Eye, citing Reuters, said Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Egypt's intelligence chief traveled to Riyadh on Wednesday with a letter from Sisi, and that Sisi described any support as limited to defending Saudi territory and borders rather than attacking Yemen1,2,3.

The report said Abdelatty on Thursday stressed seeking political solutions that would include a full Houthi withdrawal from territory taken in September near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait1,2,3. What support Egypt would ultimately provide was not clear in the reporting1,2,3.

The same account said Yahya Ali al-Rai, speaker of the Houthi-run legislature, warned Saturday against Egyptian involvement1,2,3. No independent confirmation from Egyptian or Saudi government statements was available at the time of writing beyond the Reuters account carried by Al-Monitor and Middle East Eye1,2,3.
