Snack Right Super Foods Inc., doing business as Brad's Raw Chips, is recalling certain bags of Brad's Crunchy Kale and Veggie Chips Kale because they may contain thallium, the company said in an announcement posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration1.

The Coral Gables, Florida, firm said about 25,000 bags, or about 2,097 cases, of the recalled products are estimated to be in commerce1. Distribution was nationwide through KeHE Distributors and United Natural Foods Inc., with additional sales to five individual consumers, between October 2025 and December 20251.

The recall covers specified lots of Brad's Plant Based Crunchy Kale in Original, Cheeze It Up and Radical Ranch 2-ounce bags, and Brad's Veggie Chips Kale in 3-ounce bags, with listed UPCs and Best By dates running from December 2026 through February 20271.

Thallium is a metal that can occur in soil and be taken up by plants, particularly brassicas such as kale, the company said1. It said acute or chronic exposure at relatively high levels can cause gastroenteritis, damage to peripheral nerves and hair loss1.

In May 2026, the California Department of Public Health advised consumers not to eat certain Brad's Plant Based products after investigating an inquiry from one person with elevated thallium levels, and later testing of Sacramento-area retail samples found elevated levels in multiple varieties, according to the announcement1. The firm said the recall followed FDA advice that thallium was found in tested products1.

The company said the manufacturing process did not introduce the contaminant and that dehydrating kale removes most of the water and concentrates elements already present in the fresh vegetable1.

Consumers who bought the listed products should stop eating them and discard them, the firm said1. It is not offering refunds and said the product should not be returned to stores1. Questions can go to Alexa Olvera at Snack Right Super Foods by email, and people who think they had health effects should contact a health care provider, the announcement said1. The company said the voluntary recall is being conducted with FDA knowledge1.
