Mintive raises $7 million seed for enterprise AI agent identity

TechCrunch reports agent-identity startup Mintive has raised $11 million total, including a $7 million seed led by Cowboy Ventures, with Coatue and angels including Jeff Dean and Andrej Karpathy.

Agent-identity startup Mintive has raised $11 million in total funding, including a newly announced $7 million seed round led by Cowboy Ventures, TechCrunch reported Thursday1.

Additional investors include Coatue, Operator Collective and Hustle Fund, according to TechCrunch1. Angels named in the report include Okta co-founder Frederic Kerrest, Discovery Loop co-founder and former Google chief scientist Jeff Dean, and OpenAI co-founder Andrej Karpathy1.

Mintive was founded by chief executive Jiquan Ngiam and chief technology officer Vijay Vasudevan, TechCrunch reported1. Ngiam was Coursera’s first engineer and later worked on neural networks at Google Brain; Vasudevan is described as a co-creator of TensorFlow while at Google Brain1.

The company sells tools to govern and identify enterprise AI agents, including an MCP gateway for authorizing cloud access and actions, an LLM gateway that routes models and can cap costs, agent identities that may differ from the employees they serve, and a monitor of agents across a company, according to the report1. TechCrunch said the company also lets enterprises create agents that perform long-running tasks1.

Ngiam told TechCrunch customers are “a bit shocked” at how quick and easy the product is to deploy1. He said the company hid access-control complexity so customers need not think about sandboxes, harnesses or memory1.

Mintive said it has 50 enterprise customers since launching in February, including Ro, Modern Treasury, the University of Michigan, Coursera, Apax and Stability AI, TechCrunch reported1. The outlet said the field is crowded, with offerings from Amazon, Microsoft, OpenAI and Anthropic plus many point products and startups1.

Cowboy Ventures managing partner Aileen Lee told TechCrunch that AI needs more infrastructure for governance, visibility and control1. Lee said she respected that Ngiam had raised only $11 million rather than chasing a large “vanity” round, contrasting that with other agentic startups raising far more1.
