NASA invites media to lunar landing simulator at Ames

NASA said Monday that journalists may tour a new lunar landing simulation at Ames Research Center on Oct. 29 and Oct. 30, with RSVPs due Oct. 27.

NASA on Monday invited journalists to tour a new lunar landing simulation at Ames Research Center in California's Silicon Valley on Thursday, Oct. 29, and Friday, Oct. 301.

The agency said it is using in-house and partner motion-based simulators so astronauts and engineering support teams can practice before crew members pilot commercial human landing systems to the Moon1. Through the Artemis program, NASA said it is targeting the next lunar landing in 20281.

During the tour, media would have a chance to join a Vertical Motion Simulator ride-along and interview subject-matter experts, NASA said1. Interested journalists must RSVP by Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 5 p.m. PT to the Ames newsroom, with space limited and advance registration required1.

NASA said the landing simulation was developed by Johnson Space Center in Houston and integrated into a recently upgraded simulator flight deck at Ames1. The agency said Artemis missions are planned near the lunar south pole and that it aims to establish a lasting human presence on the Moon as a step toward a crewed Mars flight1.
