RedBird Capital Partners and Sound Ventures said they will jointly invest up to $1 billion in companies at the intersection of technology, media and culture, Variety reported Thursday1.

The New York private-investment firm, founded by Gerry Cardinale, said RedBird X, its dedicated artificial-intelligence investment and incubation platform, will contribute expertise to the arrangement1. Sound Ventures, based in Los Angeles and led by talent manager Guy Oseary and Effie Epstein, manages more than $2 billion in assets, according to Variety1.

Variety said Sound Ventures has invested in Anthropic, OpenAI, Airbnb, GitLab, Hugging Face, Robinhood, Spotify, Uber and World Labs1. Oseary also manages Madonna1.

RedBird has investments in more than 50 companies representing over $82 billion in enterprise value, the report said1. Variety said RedBird invested $2 billion in David Ellison’s Skydance Media for its takeover of Paramount Global, which closed in August 2025, and later invested $4 billion more related to Paramount’s Warner Bros. Discovery merger1. Other holdings cited include Artists Equity, Ari Emanuel’s Mari, Fenway Sports Group and a deal for control of Puck valued at $250 million1.

Cardinale said Sound Ventures had a record of founder relationships and high-conviction technology and AI investments, including early stakes in Anthropic and OpenAI, according to Variety1. Oseary said RedBird offered a complementary outlook and the resources to compound the impact of Sound Ventures’ investments1. Hamid Biglari, a RedBird partner and executive chairman of RedBird X, said the unit would work with Sound Ventures on diligence and portfolio support1. Epstein said the firms shared an aim to back companies as they scale1.

Independent confirmation of the $1 billion commitment and of specific portfolio terms was not reviewed beyond Variety’s account1.
