Open-source project says it boots iOS 16.5 on Android hardware and QEMU
A GitHub project posted Thursday says it boots Apple's open-source XNU kernel and unmodified iOS 16.5 user space on a POCO X5 Pro 5G in RAM, and in QEMU.

A public GitHub repository posted Thursday describes HackiOS, a project that its authors say boots Apple's open-source XNU kernel and unmodified iOS 16.5 user space on Android phone hardware and in QEMU1.
The README says the kernel is xnu-8796.121.2, identified as the kernel of iOS 16.5, with the authors' own EFI loader, driver replacements, a UEFI port, and a Linux Wi-Fi driver on a compatibility layer1.
On a POCO X5 Pro 5G, they say nothing is flashed: UEFI is started with fastboot boot, the system lives in RAM, and a reboot returns the phone to Android1. They also describe a QEMU virt aarch64 path that needs no phone1.
They list lock screen, SpringBoard, several stock apps, touch, Wi-Fi, sound, and camera as working, and cellular, Bluetooth, charging under their kernel, App Store content, and Apple ID sign-in as not working yet1.
The authors say neither repository contains Apple files; a script downloads an iOS 16.5 IPSW from Apple's CDN onto the user's machine1. They describe the work as an independent research project not affiliated with Apple1.
No other news outlet had confirmed the technical claims at the time of writing. The only source is the project's own GitHub page1.
