KUALA LUMPUR — King Sultan Ibrahim said Saturday that a conditional royal pardon allowing former Prime Minister Najib Razak to serve the rest of a prison term under house arrest is “clear, explicit and without any ambiguity,” CNA and Bangkok Post reported2,3.

The statement came a day after the Attorney-General’s Chambers asked that Najib’s move from Kajang Prison be paused, citing questions about how the pardon interacts with another sentence2,3,5.

Najib has been imprisoned since 2022 after convictions tied to the 1MDB scandal, which he has denied. A September pardon and a High Court order this week were to let him finish about two years at home after UMNO paid a 50 million ringgit (about $12.3 million) fine3,11,20.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the attorney general, Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, had sought an audience with the king. Anwar said the monarch’s pardon power was not in dispute but that 1MDB-related legal points needed clarification, possibly by the courts5.

Najib left prison Friday then was returned after the AGC intervention, Malay Mail and other outlets reported earlier in the coverage set22,23. Whether he will move to Taman Duta, and how any second case is treated, remained unresolved Saturday2,5.
